Hey guys, got home today and decided to routinely check the oil level on my disco 300tdi, all was fine. Then went to close the bonnet and it didn't latch shut properly it just bounced on the spring.... The bonnet release catch in the passenger foot well seems to be staying slightly further out than usual and I can push it forwards a bit? I tried holding it in whilst getting someone else to close the bonnet but this didn't work.... Any ideas??

I can't seem to find any help topics on the internet like I usually can?!

Hopefully someone has had this problem/knows what to do and can help...

Look forward to hearing from you.

machanism in slam panel needs some lubrication...

wd40 will do... spray in the area of the hole where the pin on the underside of the bonnet goes in... and wiggle anything that should move til it all free's up a bit...

Something is keeping the catch open and stopping the spring returing it to it's normal closed position. Only u can tell us whats doing that. Lack of Lube ??

Could be anything from a sticking release wire or catch or a broken/missing/loose spring have you tried re-adjusting the pin bolt on the bonnet.

Have a look in the wee hole and make sure the latch is returning to just off centre in the hole if that makes sense after cleaning with wd40 apply greese

I haven't had a play with it yet will probably leave it while morning, but when I stuck my finger down into the 'hole' earlier I couldn't even feel a catch...

If you decide to adjust the little dingus thingy in the spring, DON'T try & turn it with a pair of molegrips even after you've released the locknut as they seize in the baseplate & will snap just below the helmet bit.

Hey guys, so here's the update... After spraying the mechanism that was half hidden instead of being in the middle of the hole, it made no difference... Anyway so I took the radiator cover off and saw that the piece of wire that is connected to the mechanism had a bit hanging loose at the other end of the screw... tugged on that and it swung to the locked position easily.. That has seemed to free up the mechanism and it is now working fairly well.
