My mate has a TD5 110 and we get up to 80-85 on the motorway. Mpg not amazing at those speeds, about 25ish iirc, but ive heard tdi's aren't as good after you get past 55-60. No experience with TDIs though.

tdi it will hit 74 flat out down hill but shake to bits and you will go deaf
td5 a lot faster but way more complex and expensive when it go,s wrong, which being a landy, like the 300 is all the time
i dont understand what your saying in your messages but if its tossing boys off and anal your in the wrong section, try the gaylanders section

lol yeh my lad once text'd me that he'd just passed some 'off tossers' in the village.. so that's what we call them now..

As already said tdi is easier to fix when it does go wrong and I went for one because the insurance on a tdi was less than on a td5 by quite a lot for me.

I would go TD5, even though I have a 1998 Rioja red TDi!

Whilst they are harder to work on, they are a lot quicker, nicer to drive and don't sound like a tricked up tractor when you put a straight through exhaust pipe on...

My 300 tdi will sit happily at 70mph. Not noticeably noisier than at around 60mph. It's mainly wind noise rather than engine noise etc.

Not sure whether I've just been lucky, or there's a problem with my ears!!

If you want to last everywhere at 70, get a disco.
Neither the 300, nor the td5 fender is overly comfortable at 70 IMO, though the td5 is quieter than the 300.
my 300 will do 70, relativly easily, and its not bad to drive when everything is in tip top shape, but get the slightest bit of wear in a bush, and it VERY noticable at 70. its noisy, too hot/too cold and eveything in between on the motorway. Tolerable at 60.

My TD5 doesn't do anal or fisting, but it'll sit at 60mph on the motorway quite comfortably. It's a bit funny as 50mph is no problem at all. 60mph is decent. 65mph is getting annoying. 70mph is almost painful, 75mph is painful. :) The noise level rises so much and it starts to vibrate a bit too. A Disco transfer box will probably make it better at some point. I went with the TD5 (over a 200Tdi or 300Tdi) because it's got a cam chain and you can chip tune it. And the 5 cylinders sound nicer than a vanilla 4 cylinder.
