hi all,
managed to get a towbar yesterday for next to nothing but it had no electrics with it.does anyone know where to get the socket and harness plug,or would it be easier to buy a non landrover one and solder it up as i have found the wiring colours etc when i did a search.

Personally for me I always buy the genuine article, have used the generic stuff in the past on a few vehicles but they dont seem to match up to the correct stuff.

The genuine stuff is expensive but you can always remove it when you sell the vehicle, get the biggest majority of your money back and fit a cheap one for selling.

USE STC8874 - RTC8978 - Land Rover Parts & Range Rover Parts - but no picture - be wary
 
The plug in the O/S rear light recess is was made by Rists who are no longer in business but if you can find someone sensible,like John Craddock maybe,they may be able to sell you the correct socket-to-towsocket loom.Otherwise buy a similar multiplug and socket from vehicle wiring parts or similar and make pup a section of 7 core from that to a standard towsocket yourself. Or you could just do it with choc block,and sod the next owner
