300 TDi speedo

Had that problem on a 96 Tdi recently .
The transducer (think its the same part for auto and manual ) on the gearbox was worn . Changed it - all fine again .
Easy enough to change .
 
try the connector lead( black plastic cover on a terminal with about 2mm diameter wire attached)
on the alternator,
this sorted mine as it was loose.
 
Thanks all, have taken off the transducer and cleaned the terminals but no joy yet. :( Next step is to get new one and try that.

i heard that if your alternator is going that it can cause the speedo needle to jump eraticaly. could mean somethings wrong with your alternator BUT i would double check that with some one in here with more experience before you start messing with it. I could be wrong so do double check this. hope you get it fixed
