300 tdi engine wiring loom, is it digital

The 300 tdi engine that I am putting into my 90 (1990) has all of the wiring loom on it as far back as the dash .
Some of the wires look a bit flimsey to me and why does it have two temp senders at the thermostat housing?
I dont need most of it ( I Fink ) like the throttle position thingy and the EGR and the plug on top of the head behind the inlet manifold what's that for?
All I need ( I Fink ) is oil light switch, fuel shut off solenoid, temp sender, heater plugs, Alternator wires....err...struggling now so might cut the rest off

any advice other than search and come up with 'which alloys for me 300 tdi' etc

Well if the wiring carried digital signals to the ecu instead of serious electrical power then the wires would only need to be very thin, as they are.
As I have no ecu then will I have to rewire so as not to overload the very thin wires I have in my loom.

So you are going to beef up the thin wires that go to an ECU you don't have....?

On a more productive note. If you have a later ecu 300 engine then i imagine that you will have to replace the injector pump for and earlier type and just cut off all the thin wires. I can't think what else the ecu could be controlling? with a bit of speaking to the EGR maybe?

Maybe right, the Disco doner didn't have an ECU as far as I know. there is a TPS on top of the pump but the pump is similar to a 200tdi, maybe as you say it was talking to the EGR.
I'll put them on a shelf in the garage together so as they dont get lonely

What I'm worried about is sending (earthing) full power from the 90 temp gauge down those small wires.

Thats really good. I gotta remeber that one.

as long as yours isnt edc you will only need oil.stop solenoid, temp,starter and alternator etc,second temp sender on thermostat housing is for air con fitted vehicles

you wouldn't know which temp sender is which by any chance..?

and I'm still not convinced that the small thin wires are up to supplying a 90 temp sender.

When i removed the EGR valve on mine i removed the ecu (cos thats all it controls) and just left the wiring as the wire are from th TPS and the EGR valve so are not needed,
As already mentioned wire the same as your existing engine, oil warning light, stop solenoid temp sensor,starter and alternator forget the rest.
The wires dont need to be big/thick as the only ones that need thick cable are the alternaot to the starter, check and see if its a 100amp alternator and get wire to suit.

I am sure that both of th etemp sensors are the same, personally i would replace the sensor and the crappy gauge it is 1/8 NPT thread for the sensor

I wondered what all the wiring was for, it can all go now then, I'll sort the loom out next time I have a go at it.
