I’ve had an annoying knock on my engine for months, and I can’t track it down
However it’s been stood for a month and when I started it, it was really quite, ran it for an hour or so and around 10 miles, all good.

Today started it again and back to the knocking any ideas please?

could be the v@cuum pump, be better if you could post @ vid of it.

Crack each injector in turn and see if the noise stops, that way you should be able to narrow it down to which cylinder, if it is not any one cylinder then you can start looking elsewhere.

As post #2 - most likely servo exhauster... they have something of a reputation....;)

Do as post #3, then you'll probably have your answer :)

I had a noise that sounded like engine knock when one of the bolts holding the pulley onto the power steering pump came out. I put a new one in as soon as I got home of course, but as it it happened in the middle of a long journey I had to put up with the clatter for quite a while. So as well as the vacuum pump there may be a variety of other ancillaries that could be noisy.

Indeed. Which reminds me that some time ago, SWMBO's 300Tdi belt tensioner stud failed and fell in to the fan - that racket certainly got her attention!! :D

OP - is your tensioner all present and correct ? o_O ...;)
