300 tdi engine mount. Fabricate or weld chassis

Putting 300tdi into defender in place of 200tdi.

The nearside engine mount is a straight swap from the 200 and bolts on.

the offside wont fit as you know.

we have decided to fabricate a mount using two of the original mounting boltholes and extending a plate forward picking up the one bolt hole just ahead of the oil filter. Was hoping to chop and weld the 200 offside mount to this to save having to work out in the cold welding 300 mounts to the chasis.

Has anyone done this?

Dont tell me it cant be done because I know it can, we just need to work out how to fabricate a simple strong plate to weld the mount to and see that it misses the oil filter.

Any constuctive comments welcome:):)
 
leave engine as is and remove chassis mounts repace with home made chassis mounts they are horizontal so arent difficult to weld in place

All seem to have welded disco 300 mounts to the chassis. I wonder how far back those mounts would be when using the 19J gearbox and the engine being back against the bulkhead.

I measured for mine with the disco boxes and the mounts would have to be on the bit of the chassis that slopes lower to go under the bulkhead.

Why didn't Land Rover keep the same casting as the 200 so as the mounts were interchangeable? The only reason I can think of was to put the weight of the engine further back in the chassis and to stop people like me cheating on engine swaps.

I wont be out done though so watch this space.:D

Problem with that is.....although I have some 300 Disco mounts to weld on it's ****in freezin outside where the Landy is and it's warm inside where the engine and welder are.

so no contest really, weld by the fire with the radio on and a warm brew to hand, get it all ready then spend an hour outside bolting the engine in the 90.:D
 
My mounts are welded, i think steve parker do bolt in mounts, you could look at theirs as a guide? sometimes their stuff is on ebay under '300 conversion'

Will do, only need one mount and I'm working on a design, just need to find some plate the right size.
I've got some quarter inch plate but that's a bit over the top and hard to cut so lookin at something a little slimmer.
Got a problem with the water pump and turbo for the weekend so that should keep me busy.:D
 
or buy the engine mounts that i sell on ebay £30 a set item no 270711861699

Got some 300 disco mounts so wouldn't need to buy any.

Fabricated a sturdy bracket using the 200 mount as a base and it is strong and the engine dropped straight in :cool::cool:

Lot easier than welding a 'new' 300 mount in place on the chassis....job done:D
