Worksop, notts
just been looking before i install the obligatory EGR valve removal kit and replacement intercooler pipe. Looks like a previous owner has made a bit of a modification, there is a vac pipe comming from the top of the fuel pump round the back of the head and into the intercooler pipe. Now when i junk all of this where is the pipe meant to be connected to?, check out the pics you will see what i mean:

looks like pump boost feed from turbo some people move it from waste gate actuator diaphragm t peice to manifold or in your case pipe, you only need to fit blank tin gasket under egr valve

So if i wanted to do away with the egr valve and swap the pipe(already bought it) where would this pipe go to? back to the inlet manifold?

thinking of it, yes ... to soften the turbo boost ? or was that the "screaming pipes" mod, to get a "nicer" sound ?
take it off anyway, probably from someone who felt more ingenious than the bunch of garrett/peugeot/land rover engineers

edit: I notice you still have the plastic bung on the thermostat housing, get rid of it for a brass version (and do same to the radiator, probably)

Bit of a weird one
I cnt understand y they wud take a air feed from intercooler to fuel pump with a adjustable valve

I just ask whereabouts does it go to on fuel pump

just had look on net
remove egr valve as normal blank off change intercooler pipe n I wud blank off pipe going
to pump
Hopefully everything should be ok

So,dont change your air top pipe at all.Just put a blanking piece into the appropriate joint and leave the rest as is.Looks nicer for the insurance man that way and can also be changed back should you or the next owner wish.

Also,I have found that the replacement rubber top hoses are prone to squeeze under the air pressure.

If you really want to replace it then keep the metal section and original heavy duty rubber connector sections and cap off the flexi pipe that goes to the now blocked EGR.You can cut it short and solder a plumbing fitting over it,or cut it flush and weld or even braze a piece of steel or brass sheet metal over the hole.Up to you.But if you are looking at improving performance then a rigid air hose is better than a squeezy one.

Hello. My 1995 300tdi vehicle does not have an egr valve but it does have a black plastic item which allows oil fumes from the rocker cover and crankcase into the turbo air inlet hose. This oil is what gets in the intercooler and reduces its efficiency.
Would removing the suction hose help any?

Hello,
On my Australian compliance 1995 disco auto tdi, there is no Catalytic converter and no EGR valve. I do have the 2 mufflers though.
I carried out the fuel mods suggested, and today took it on a 300km very torturous trip with many valleys and hills mostly with 100km/hr speed limits including up a mountain. I found that the mods have make a difference, the feel of the vehicle is slightly different, seems more torque at low revs but its very subjective. Trying to do 100km/hr up a steep mountain and keep up with the rest of the traffic is still just as impossible in top gear as ever, and I still have to drop to 3rd and be happy with 80km/hr at about 3000 rpm.
When my exhaust pipe SS extender arrives from the US, I will chop off the end muffler leaving the middle still in place but thats about as far as I want to risk it. Noise laws are quite strict here (same as California).
