300 Tdi cam belt change

Has anybody changed a cam belt on a 300 Tdi themselves? I've ready Haynes and it looks fairly straight forward but do you really need the special tools or is it possible to improvise. Any advice would be appreciated :)
 
you can lock the inj pump with a 9.5mm drill bit.
you can lock the flywheel with a 5mm drill bit through the centre of a wading plug.
 
its nowt that complex mate ! as yer can see from the piccies !
the bolt wer drilled out with a 4mm drill down the center and a but of 5mm threaded bad ****ted in to it !

job jobbed ;)
