If you are going through deep water you are supposed to put a plug in there to keep the water off the clutch. Remove when you aren’t

Thanks, although it's actually at the front of the engine, at the bottom of cam belt housing

Another wading plug goes in that hole as well
Same size bolt as the one for the bellhousing

Thanks, I'm just concerned ****e could get in at the cam belt, don't have a plug but I could probably make one.

Unless going in deep water you don't need one as any oil that leaks into cam housing can then escape.
If fitted then regular removal to drain/check housing.

Wading plugs hole - the name gives it away really. I wouldn't fi them in mine unless going through water. Easily purchased from ebay or a LR parts supplier. Keep them in the vehicle just in case!

If tool wrap is still behind seat may be in there.

That sounds like a job to do
The tools are all untouched for decades by the looks of them, so it may be a good thing to give them a clean up and service thanks

The cam belt is more likely to get contaminated with the plug in.

The casing can fill up with condensation, or oil leakage from the front crank seal, and this will eventually reach the bottom of the belt.

But did you put the electric lead and cap on from the High pressure diesel pump? And was it quicker?

If you were ever to sell it, I would put a plug lead on it just to confuse to new owners
