hiya

well my kind son James has bought home a 3 door roof rack for me,

ive taken it all apart as the bolts etc look like someone has rounded some of them off

so will see if the local stealer know if u can get new bolts but i imagine they will want silly money

noticed on the back cross bar on the ends the paint is flaking off , and will see where u take off the blanks above the lights are nice and shiny gloss paint and the roof rack isnt ,

was wondering have any of you rubbed them down and sprayed them with gloss paint, my hippo is black anyway

didn't realise the whole thing comes apart, but am well pleased , is it an alloy underneath the paint work

still got some hammerite smooth in black but don't know what it would look like , but at least if i rubbed it down to give it a scratch coat, or maybe buy some good black gloss spray paint

could u recommend any good gloss spray paint please as i can hang the roof rack up in the shed , rub it all down and give it a spray as its still nice and warm

as i think a body shop would want alot of money to spray it

I wouldn't go to a bodyshop to spray it, i'd go to a proper powder coaters and ask them for a price to blast it, zinc primer it and spray it in polyester powder coat. I'd expect it to be around £50 quid, if you dismantle it first. Lot cheaper and tidier than fannying around with rattle cans and all the prep work!

If you really want to rattle can it, i tend to use Rustoleum (sold at homebase) its got pretty good coverage if you use it properly

thks, suppose for whats it going to be used for and being financially practical maybe better if rub it down which i can easily just sit down in the shed and doesn't matter if it takes hours and suppose it would be a shame if i got it powder coated then it got all scratched up

will look out for that rustoleum, thks

make sure you get some good zinc primer if you're going to do it by hand, or you'll be wasting your time if you dont prep it properly

thks, most of the paint is ok so was just going to rub it down to give it a key, its mainly the rear cross rail ends that are peeling, if the hamerite, straight to rust paint any good, as ive got nearly a litre left of it please

thks again

Yeah the straight to rust paint will be fine, depends if the colour will stick out like a sore thumb though, as black is very different to different companies!
