Hi thanks for the information I just drove it 12 miles lights came on around 10m parked for half hour then drove to garage 9 miles lights off got fuel drove 8m lights off parked at shop switched off again as in the garage then started drove 7 m home lights still off so only came on once I love the motor but fell like using it for target practise

Still sounds like abs sensors to me...I had similar problems...how much are you paying for sensors and where are you getting them from?

I was going round in circles with new but cheap sensors...they would work for a bit then start failing, but in a strange and baffeling way until they failed completly. Then I knew which was at fault..

ebay sensors they are working so far just gave it a run to local shops and back about 6 to 8 mile round trip the only thing I done yesterday was to pump the brake pedal to get the shoe adjusters to move they seem to be working since doing that hears hoping

All sounds too familiar. ...it will be dodgy ebay sensors...I bought the same. ..worked for a while then had me chasing my arse....as you have access to a scanner...take a note of which ones throw a fault and replace them with another ebay sellers sensor...Usually the ones that offer a 2 year warranty are ok. They are around £15-£20 each...I posted in a thread a while back a seller that sensors worked ok for me....cant remember the exact name but something like volksparts. ...unless you fine the post.

Hi Jedi that's the ones I used on the front the rear ones were on it when I got it one of the front ones nearside was faulty when I got the motor but the ones I have put in are working I just hope it keeps working after pumping the brakes

well drove for first time today and the nightmare lights are back on again and they did not go out with the run too the shop and back land rover uk needs to sort all these cars for free

Hi Jedi I have replaced them when they were said to be faulty with the hawkeye ist the nearside then the offside all within a few days the still did not work right they were working yesterday when I arrived home today I switched on the ignition and the bludy lights were back on this cant be sensors surly as it was not moved from the day before

Whilst it does sound like a faulty sensor, I know you say the brake lights work ok, for the cost of one I would change the brake light switch. Once came across a similar problem brake lights worked ok, but three amigos were on, changed switch and bingo,

Why should Land Rover fix these cars for free?

You need to read the codes and check whatever's reported thoroughly including both electrical and mechanical aspects of the fault reported.

Hi thanks for the replies why should land rover sort them because its there fault the system is crap all the codes were read by the garage and cleared 3 times I have been back

There are bits on the Freelander that Land Rover have got wrong and should have compassion to the customer on - some they shown that compassion (maybe needing a bit of persuasion) - such as replacing diffs on the F2, others they have conveniently ignored (in my opinion) such as VCU/IRD issues. However, a fault in a 12 year old ABS system, I don't see how that could be LRs responsibility.

The ABS system is that a system - if all the bits work then you have ABS. Something here is broke so its popping up a code - if you clear the code - it will come back. The fault needs to be identified and fixed. In my case the code came back as a modulator. I cleared the code and it came back. So I changed the modulator and everything has been fine since. Your's looks like its more difficult to identify - but there is something in there that's broken. If the codes are coming up as sensors (which is why I suggested you show us what the codes are), then I doubt it will be other issues like the brake switch, but will be either the sensors, the ECU checking the sensors, the inducer rings or the wiring.

I don't know if sensors on the front & back are the same, but it looks like all your codes have been on the front wheels. If they're the same, have you tried swapping the rear sensors for the front and see if the codes move to the back or stay at the front? It will tell you if its the sensors themselves or kit related to the sensors.

Hi I just went and took the brake light switch off and cleaned it and stretched the spring before putting it back on I drove it and the tc light and amber hdc light came on after putting the switch back on the lights are off ill try it tomorrow and see if they stay off if they do ill get a new brake light switch ps thanks for all the help folks cheers :beer2:

:mad2: well they are back on so I removed the battery leads to reset but still the same I cant find anything else that would cause them to so bludy intermittent when they work all works as it should its doing my head in

The faulty abs sensor will eventually fail open circuit...but when you check them they will read ok...Then one day after checking them again they read ok..5 mins later you decide to check them again and its a solid fail open circuit:)... Sounds exactly like my fault...strange goings on with crap ebay sensors....I replaced them with another ebay sellers sensor and so far so good...

I found that the brake light switch gsve me 2 amigos...tc and hdc..

I how have 4 sensors from the same seller.

Hi Jedi the sensors read ok all the time even when the lights are on but ill check them again the ones I got off ebay were 19.99 each from the same place you got yours
