3.9 or 4.0l are they same or different

I frequently see references to the 3.9 and 4.0L engine. Are they actually the same?. ie, 3.9 is nominally 4.0L

bore diameter is the same as is 4.6 ,but later 4 litres have bigger crank journals than 3.9 and ecu controlled ignition as well as fueling were 3.9 only has the fueling

also 4.0 is cross-bolted

4 litre is better block and crank..same slippy liner problems..
