This is the age old issue I have read about....
Cold starts runs fine for 10-15 mins then you do a hot start drive for 2-3 mins and first time I stop rev meter drops and drops then cuts out.
Does this every time after even when pulling on the drive at slow speed it cuts out.

I have done the followin already over the past few months and this only started this week :-

1. NEW AIR Filter in std trumpet housing.
2. MAF and hot wire clean and check / refit
3. NEW Plenum to MAF Shannon/Rubber tube.
4. Cleaned the inlet butterfly flap thingy...
5. Changed the idle valve for a new one and washer + cleaned inside while off
6. New Lucas Coil
7. NEW POWERSPARK Dizzy
8. NEW NGK sparks (iridium)
9. NEW BOSCH HT leads
10. Oil Change and Coolant Change
11. Coolant Temp gauge changed (which cured my heating issues a while back).

The only thing I am doing now since the problem is focus on the flame tramp...
Removed all the pipes last night which were gunked and the Narrow part of the T piece was clogged had to really work to clear it but all pipes done, Flame Trap will not budge but looking in it is full to the top of GUNK.

So ordered a NEW one from Rimmers and assuming I can get this off and replace not sure if I will see any benefit from this or what the benefit of a full flowing flame trap is ???

IF this then does not sort it then any suggestions for the easy bit first and then the more difficult bits ???

Thanks Guys.

My suggestion would have been the idle stepper motor, but you have already looked at that....see if you can borrow a known good one - you never know yours could be duff!!

Ovther thing to check would be an induction leak that only appears once the engine is hot and the components have expanded causing a leak in the intake system....do a smoke test when the engine is hot...

This is basiccaly means get the engine up to temp.....remove fan, and using a smoke stick/incense stick or if you smoke a cigarette and waft smoke around the engine bay, if there is an intake leak the smoke will be sucked in.....

Do this quickly mind no more than 5-10 minutes as you are running the engine without the fan....

Also helps to do it inside or in dead calm winds so you can see the smoke trails.

Hi Ash.

I had something similar on a different car some years ago.

Maybe your air fuel mixture is runnning very lean when hot and cutting out.

From what you have done, have a good look at the air intake airfilter intake by removeing the flexi 9 I assume you have one on your generation) on mine the bottom of teh bellows had a hair line crack allowing just enough air to make the thing stall. especially if it is an auto..
best of luck

Sorry just read V8 response.

Yes absoutley.

even try to choak it slightly and see if if doen''t stall then your onto a winner.

I remember the last inlet man' i had leak made a slight whistle noise.....

When my Flame Trap arrives will swap that and reattached all the pipes I will recheck the idle stepper with my old one. Quite exciting getting the old rubber gloves on and getting in amongst it.... I am learning bit at a time and by friend who rebuilds them for fun and owns one of the first 20 Range Rovers is getting me there....

I may try and remove the plenum for a good clean (OCD style) if I can logically work around it to remove it... any advise on removing the plenum is gratefully recieved.

Dead simple to remove - the fiddly bit is the throttle linkages....

Sunday says SUNSHINE so saving my OCD clean up til then... will find a how to guide to get the plenum off and do it all properly in reverse and hopefully will have a better breathing V8 come sunday pm...
