well picked up the truck yesterday after booking it in for a strange clunk when braking.it sounds like something is catching somewhere in the transmission.mechanic said that maybe the handbrakes catching because when you release the handbrake theres a slight noise has if the drums let go when you pull away.hes adjusted and the noise is defenatly better but not gone is there any chance the handbrakes still lightly grabbing the drum even thought it does,nt grab till the fifth click when raised.any help much appreciated craigy boy:)

Yes, the brake shoes can be still sticking and not fully released? I
believe the correct adjustment is three clicks to fully on.

Try slacking off the shoes and then reajust, that cleared my sticking hand brake.

yes i think your right there mate it is 3 clicks but he adjusted the extra just to eliminate the handbrake with the prob i have, and has i said it has helped but not fully cured.i might take the drum off and see whats happening inside, are they easy to remove?thanks for reply craig

Yes removing the drum is easy, as easy as it can be laying under the car.
Undo the four propshaft nuts and a screw holding the drum on and if the shoes are slack the drum will pull off.
Check the operation of the handbrake cable at the same time.

hiya,i,ve disconnected the propshaft and sods law do you think ive got a screw driver which fits that big motherfunky of a screw to take the drum off do i foook:( but when turning the drum with handbrake fully released there,s slight grab and spring noise from inside the drum.how free should this drum be?

Can't help on that one but a bit like a wheel drum brake maybe. I have a BIG pozi screwdriver had it for years i got it for the brakes on a saloon car I had, it will last me for ever.
Give the screw head a bash with a hammer and punch and you will be able then to undo it with a flat bladed screwdriver, hopefully :)
