Which would be the better option.. In your collective opinion? Or is the petrol perhaps a better option?

Looking at 2007-2008+

My mate had a 3.6 V8 it seemed a pretty decent car it was a year 2009 model, aged badly on the colour coded bits
He said his mate bought a 4.4 TD V8 and it made the 3.6 seem slow

**** in what sense? Just slow or had problems?
Turbos
EGRs
Headgaskets
Intercooler hoses

take your pick Turbos are £1000 each and nearly the same in labour for EACH!
And if the motor has over 80k on it without any receipts for a turbo replacement expect to save up for the nightmare.:eek:

To redo the EGRs the majority of the top end has to be removed and they do fail and are around £700 for replacement.

And Headgaskets are starting to rear their ugly heads

4.4 is superior, not even worth looking at the 3.6 it is a good paperweight...

Thanks 'enry. What are the bad points for the 4.4 then?

I only ask I'm looking/considering an L322 - but a post 2007 as per advice elsewhere.

And, yes, while RR and 'reliable' are generally not considered to be synonymous, I'd like something I can take the family on for longer journeys. Maybe even over to the continent (North West Spain from Edinburgh)

Not had a 4.4 TDV8 in the garage that had an engine issue mainly rust and electrics failing.

The ZF8HP can have an issue with an oil leak from between the automatic transmission and transfer case the cause according to the TSB is Internal porosity in the area of the extension casing, but apart from that the gearbox is quite robust the engine is quite good..

MPG is pretty good too quite easy to get over 30mpg with the 4.4 however it is a struggle to get over 25 with the 3.6.

especially when driving at high speed, a good mate of mine got 38mpg cruising at 90 in germany

Just don't get the 3.6 ;)

I guess, re my last post, what would the recommendation be then? Budget won't stretch to anything newer really - about 2012,max,probably.
