3.5 V8 - Which carb set up?

Just purchased a 3.5 V8 can anyone reccomend the best Carb set up?
SU/HIF or Stromberg?? Anyone got any for sale including the manifold?

afaik the stromberg is the best for off road...

Why is Stromberg best (glad to hear it as I run the CD175's) but I've been told SU's.
Easier to tune, maintian and more economical. V8 - economics isn't what it was bought for!

Su's are better performance wise but suffer sticking floats and **** fuel everywhere,more so when offroad (mine did anyway)
strombergs are less prone to going out of tune like the su's but don't give as much performance. I've fitted both and wouldn't chose one over the other so whichever you can get hold of use them in my opinion

SUs Rule - HIF6's, easy to fix, easy to set up, easy to mend in the field, works at stupid angles and a great V8 roar

SU's for sure.

i have some Stromberg's as a door stop for the shed door....

Which one is the SU, the one with the stumpy top or the taller top?

YES I am defo an EFi man, but need to find a carb setup for my looming v8 jacuzzi rig.

Being a carb novice would I be better with a single carb? 4 barrel jobbie for instance?

I mean, what the #### is carb balancing?!

you'd better ask your mate griff about 4 pot carbs I like the look of them tbh, although I presume they'll be a bit harder to hook up to a snorkel than twin SU's as the inlets are different!

You could always go for a quad DellOrto set up

Give up now submit your V8 to someone that can fix it!!

Su carbs are the tall "fat" ones,

I have a couple of inlet manifolds with su carbs on but can't think for the life of me where they came from if you get stuck

Made sense in my head

basic idea:

building a performance engine is expensive, i am poor

building a jacuzzi engine is cheap and easy!

heres the idea:

i have a tired 3.5 efi long motor

strip and clean, new cam and followers, chain, new shells and rings. no major machining to keep cost minimum. may not even bother removing valves for lapping.

simple carb setup, simple exhaust setup, quiet enough for jacuzzi relaxing but loud enough to make sense.

remove thermostat.

sd1 timing cover with alternator.

portable hot tub/paddling pool, with water inlet and outlet connected to engine water pump. alternator provides power for air pumps for relaxing bubble action.

throttle provides temperature control.

the su hif 6 on my 2 door are pretty good, although I would not use the re-furbisher I used last time again.

I am going for the original 2 barrel on my 4.4 and using gas offroad to avoid the problem of angles

Hubble, bubble toil n trouble
