Hi guys, a mate of mine has this problem. It will turn over after filling up but it fails to catch. Once started he says it's flat and limits to about 3000 rpm for a bit then goes back to normal. This happens every now and then but is getting more regular!

He's had a diagnostic done on it which doesn't return any problems. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

That will be a TD6, think they are common rail, so if he has been tempted at any stage to use biodiesel that maybe the problem. Needs to get it on diagnostics, high pressure pump, pressure regulator could be a lot of things. Has he ever inadvertently stuck petrol in it. That can knacker the system big time?

The TD6 is common rail,(Fail) with many poor starting problems.Either of the low side fuel pumps can and will run slow before dying completely.Excessive injector back leakage is also common,as are rail pressure regulator problems and their wiring.
I've also seen a main dealer maintained car on 100k with its original fuel filter - changing that solved lots of problems.... The high side pumps are generally reliable unless abused.(Water, petrol etc.)
Failure to log a fault code often points to excessive injector leakage - easy to pick up by clamping off the fuel return hose and viewing the top of each injector. If fuel rises in any of them with the igntion on,(Not running tho)then they are shot.
