Dear all, I know this title sounds mad but bear with me:)

My defender 90 V8 is designed for light green landing and hot road use- and it is entered in this seasons RWYB challenge at Santa pod drag strip. Being concerned about my near stock drive train - apart from paddle clutch - I am thinking about buying a second set of front drive flanges - drilling them out to remove all the spline groves and then fitting them with the setup packed with greas - the run it in centre diff lock. This would give me an effective switchover to 2wd would it not? That would be usefull for Santa pod I think.

Then when I return I could simply replace the front drive flanges with the old set and get the beloved 4x4 back.

Has this been done? It should work but have I missed anything?? What's every bodies opinion??

Cheers

Dave

Good luck with that.....
I used to regularly break half shafts and diffs' on my old hybrid V8 series IIA (RWD unless 4WD selected) without trying. Plenty of revs, dump the clutch.....BANG.
Time to spend time with the spanners.
Mike.

Buy my bike engined pug 205, cbr1100 xx engine in the front rear wheel drive, o-60 in 4 seconds 0-140 in 12 seconds

I can see how the extra pressure on the rear half shafts could snap them like a carrot! Think a pegged diff and LSD with upgraded half shafts are in order befor the 2wd setup. Was thinking about modifying some series 3 selectable from drive flanges for my spline pattern - but that is a great deal of work!
