2nd gear issues

Hi everyone
How can I check
2nd gear selector is at fault
For poor engagement of 2nd gear freelander 2.

Before trip to get ripped off at garage to be blagged.
Also
Can I access area from above or below

Yes no issue engine off

that would suggest a worn baulk ring,you can try an oil change it often helps,boxes can be stripped and fixed but most garages /dealers dont now

Thanks for advice James will try oil change first .vehicle has done 100.000 so must be due some nice fresh oil
