hi i have a disco 300tdi fitted with a south down snorkel fitted. the problem i have now is i want to install a second battery with a split charge system, but because of the routing of the snorkel the intake pipe runs directly threw the second battery tray area. so my question is has anyone got around this problem without removing the snorkel. i have been told to fit a air filter box from a 200tdi. but i am unsure wether this can be done and would it solve my problem. any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

yes, i got a second battery in there with a split charge and a southdown snorkel like you, the battery is a little starting battery from a small jap car. IIRC its a HB12 from halfords with the little jap terminals. I had to move the PAS reservoir back about an inch to get it in, just a bit of flat steel bar welded to give an extension on the bracket.

Edit: it's a HB 154

you'll need to move the PAS resevoir about 2 inches to fit it in.

i did think about doing it that way but i was unsure if a smaller battery would cope with the drain of my winch (should really have mentioned that in my original post) but i will look into that abit more. i was also thinking about just switching my original battery for a bigger one out of 7.5 tonne lorry but unsure if that would make any difference at all. thanks for the help

I'd suggest just get one battery, and make it a bit bigger. The problem if you go for 2 small batteries, is that if one of them fails, it will drag down the other. And if you isolate the faulty one, you're left with an undersized battery. Also 2 batteries is invariably more expensive than one good one, once you factor in all the extra cables, hassle, etc.

I've just fitted a type 334/250 battery to my Disco. 800CCA, 90AH, fits in the normal location with a little mod to the clamp, for £74.99 inc postage, 4 years guarantee.
