Can anyone confirm in reality that 235/85/16 tyres on 16" modulars will go onto a standard height (running HD springs) Discovery 1 WITHOUT a 2" lift.

Bumpers will be removed back and front, so I am just expecting a camel type trim of the arches front and back, and adjustment of bump and steering stops yes?

Various manufacturers and suppliers giving me some waffle and I am getting huge differing opinions from books and forum posts all over the shop. Tyres I am looking at using are ideally the new sized Insa Turbo Traction Tracks or BFG MT's.

PS Mine is a 5dr!

I have looked at the Disco fitting guide and this looks ok, so why are dealers saying they won't fit or are they just ar*e covering?

Thanks.

Hi.
My 5dr disco1 had 235/85/16 on RR alloys before i had my lift. Did rub front bumpers so trimmed, did the 'camel cut' and adjusted the steering stops. Also rubbed inner rear arches on articulation, so fitted larger bumpstops, but ended up riding on the bumpstops most of the time (Most uncomfortable) One of the reasons i now have a lift.
The advantage over standard height tyres is quite a bit though. My diff doesn't get stuck, unlike other discos and rrc's that i go out with regularly.

I've fitted some pirelli scorpion muds on my 200 the other day and all that needed was the rear arch trim, literally just a tiny taking off, steering stops doing and I'd already removed the front valance. I've not took it to enough articulation for the them to rub the top of the arches...yet... but a lift is in order one day. They still look beasty anyway!

Are they 235/85's then? They do fill the arches!

Pardon my stoopidity here.
After numerous searches is there a definitive answer?
I have a 1998 300 TDI it would be great if the 235/85 - 16R fitted without the need for a nip and tuck.

Will it fit without rubbing

(I will duck and run shortly after the abuse starts)

C :)

got 265/70 r16 ats on my 3dr and didnt need to trim rear arches for the road just adjust steering locks quite a bit but did go from 205s
