It had to end some time, three problems arrived together. 1) Strong smell of diesel turned out to be a leak off pipe eaten by a mouse! They seem to like silicone pipe. The pipe also seems to be reacting with the diesel as it has swollen compared to the new piece I have just fitted.
2) The tailgate solenoid no longer wants to release the latches, it buzzes but seem to have lost power.
3) The worst problem. the auto box has started doing strange things on the first to second and second to third changes. First gear releases and the revs rise dramatically before second engages, same on second to third. It's not like the clutches are slipping as when the gear engages it does so with a real jolt. No error messages and no fault codes.
Going to check the oil level tomorrow and hope it's that or maybe the mouse has eaten the cables:mad:
Looks like my weekend taken care of.

Aaaah, to be fair you did well to last as long as you did! Have fun this weekend - start with the easy problems, they'll give you the motivation to sort the gearbox out! If Ed from Wheeler Dealers is to be believed, it'll just need a change of transmission fluid! ;) Apparenlty it should smell sweet and be pink in colour - if its brown and smells burnt then it needs a change :)

Neither, just pointing out that they ain't all trouble. Cost me a lot less per mile than the Xtrail that I had before. Even if I have to fork out for a new gearbox, it's still a cheap car to run:)

when did you change the fluid last and did you flush it fully. whats the total mileage on t car

well according too t specs on tranny oil it needs changing every 30k miles, now thats not saying that it gone bad on ya but to flush it fully it needs to be changed 3 times at least due too t inners of an auto torque converter, box and t oil cooler. i d change t oil and filter first fully i think it takes 9 litres, and she what she does, keep us posted

You are right, just checked the service schedule and the ATF should have been changed at 96K. I miss read the shedule, the line above say's at "24000 miles only" but applies to the filter:doh:

i ve a little more miles than you and she s due a change soon, but when i changed it i done it 3 times and i ve t sealed box which is a pain, top up start t car cycle through each gear, drain again and repeat thats unless you know some guy with t proper flush kit that connects into the oil cooler pipes.

Well the leak off pipes and the tailgate release were easy fixes, but it's not good news on the gearbox. I have changed the oil twice, what f****ing messy job, no improvement, I'm still getting a rise in revs on 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd changes.:( Going to look at the electronics next. according to RAVE ECU's need calibrating to the car if changed. I have a spare ECU so may try that after I have checked all the connections. I've had a broken wire in the AIRCON condensor fans loom so I suppose it's possible that the fault could be electrical.
The fault came on suddenly, one day it was fine next day problem, it's the same hot or cold.
Any ideas anyone? Auto boxes are not my strong suit:confused:
