Hi did anyone fit 225/65/16 (not 17) I cannot find any picture with the looks.
I just want to put wider ones than 215, I know they will fit and not rub however with 6j I am afraid it might look a bit ridiculous (oval shape)

I have 215/70/16 right now. But they look like a toy car from behind, not too wide.
I did put 225/70/16 as well no issues, some toyo open country. But the whole car felt like it was made of pudding, noisy as hell and need to grab things on cornering.
So my next best guess will be 225/65/16...
 
Andy are the geolandars actually black? Or greyish/blueish?
That was my prob with the toyos, they were grey not very black...

Just got to drop in and congratulate you on that post.
I have been on LZ a long time, and seen very many strange queries, including plenty about tyres.

But that is the very first time I have seen anybody complain about the colour their tyres are! :)
 
If you are being sarcastic, the issue is I had some very sexy BLACK bf goodrich urban terrains. And some manufacturers specify that the tyres are Black.
To prove my point, I have some proof.
I guess it's OCD related.

And these are clean.

I was being completely straightforward, I have never seen that question before.

For me, those tyres look fine, and legal, which would be my main concern with tyres.
 
The 225 doesnt necessarily make the car noisy and wobbly, thats more likely to have been a poor choice of tyre make and model or type rather than tyre size. We had 225/75R16 kumho KL71 - those made it noisy but not wobbly, later on I fitted its "summer wheels" with 235/70R16 BFGoodrich all terrains - still not wobbly, but now also quiet. My fathers hippo had standard 215/65/16 mixed budget road tyres and it was woeful, my KL71's handled better than his "road tyres"

Toyo is not bad, I have now proxes cf2 suv and very pleased with them.

The higher the sidewall of tyres, the more rolly polly the ride. So if you want larger diameter wheels, but without the wollowing in the corners, then go up in wheel size, and use wider, lower profile tyre to keep the overall diameter to same. That's why I went for 18" wheels, where the improvement in body roll is quite pronounced.

Oh yes, some tyres aren't totally black, but that's due to the mix of rubber and synthetic compounds in there. Yokohama Geolanders are black, but keep in mind they're a bit noisy at speed.
 
Right thank you Nodge. I do have two freelanders now, and the other has 17 wheels. I believe I will keep the 17... perhaps if I go 225/60/17 should be fine.
I do feel like the whole suspension reside on the tyres now.
Was the car jelly with 225/60/17? I see you had them fitted.

Depends on the tyres construction, as in it will vary with the make and model of tyres used. Typically higher load rated tyres have more chords in their sidewall construction making them more resistant to roll. The BFG All Terrains on my hippo have less roll than 95% of budget "road tyres" I've encountered in the 5 freelanders I've dealt with over the years. Tyre pressure can also have an effect on this, running my KL71's at 26psi in the winter caused a slightly wallowy drive, not wayward handling just more pronounced roll, than I experienced when they were at the 36psi I normally run them at.

To an extent, but lower profile tyres roll less, which is why they're fitted to high performance versions of more regular vehicles. A lower profile tyre has a stuffer side wall, which results in less tuck under, giving more responsive steering and handling.
 
I am now undecided if I should go 225/60/17 or 235/55/17.
A bit worried on mpg and how the 1.8 K will handle the 235 all arounds.
Will go with nexen n'fera ru1, price is the same for both.
Decisions decisions decisions...
