Hi All
Been looking at tyre threads on the forum and is a bit confused. 205 80 R16 are they the biggest tyre you can fit without spacers or lift kit. As a friend of mine has a set he bought for a Ninety then went and bought some 235 85 r16 on nice alloys and the 205 (never fitted) are going for a song. From what I read they should give an inch lift as well.

Thanks Tannebri

I've got the 205 80 16 on mine and they fit fine without any mods. (freelander 1 pre-facelift)
From the standard 215 65 16 they should give about 24mm lift.
I did experiment with 225 75 16. They looked great and give an extra 29mm. But some reports on them rubbing with heavy passengers or when excess suspension travel over rocks etc. - so need a small lift kit and spacers with them really. I didn't run with them. Just tried them on in the garage.
Lucky if you get them cheap.
Your speedo should be a bit more accurate - I calculated to do 70 your speedo needs to show 74 with the original tyres. but on the 205 80 16 it needs to read 69.8 - so be careful past speed cameras!

plus spare - it gets expensive! I've got lift kit for mine now - waiting for weather to fit. Then I'll be tempted into bigger still.

How come I hear about so many people doing lifts? Every insurance company I have asked has given me a flat no when I've asked about it . Are people just not telling them or something ?

Just read about the falkens, not as good in the wet as BFG's and very little resale value. Whereas if you keep your old tyres and sell the car, you can get good money for used BFG's. If ONLY they did them in 205/80! The smallest they do 215/70 before you need spacers and all that insurance altering stuff.

I've already talked to my insurance company about the lift. They had to go away to discuss it - but said they would cover me for it and made a note in my file. I'm with elephant. But they are useless with foreign call center. Lucky for me I found they are the same company as Admiral and their call center a much more savy, so I always ring up Admiral.
