My Sister is thinking about replacing her aging Kia Sorento for a 2015 diso she has seen one being sold at a car lot near her. She tows her caravan about 4 times per year but not very far. The disco in question is for sale for £21,000 which to me sounds very expensive. I know nowt about it. What does the collective think a 2015 disco in good condition with average mileage should sell for at a used car dealers. Also, are there any worrying things to look for on a 7 year old disco?

What to look for on a disco 4? the answer is everything, google tdv6 or sdv6 crankshaft issues.
Check prices on ebay/auto trader etc, some late 65 hi spec d4 with low miles are over 30k.
Suggest to her she waits until next year, as I understand it old large expensive cars are getting hard to shift.

Other thing is, is the car Euro6? if not avoid as the clean air carp may end up near your sooner or later., some very late 15 plates were euro6, then from 65 plate onwards they were all euro6.

Thanks, thats all very useful info. She lives in Birmingham where they have their equivelent of the ulez although she lives well outside the zone. Also she is a 64 year old widow who wouldnt even know how to open the bonnet. She is over 100 miles from me so I cant just pop round to sort any problems. The crankshaft issue is a real biggie.

Well in that case I would say avoid any land rover product, plus if you suggest what to buy and it goes wrong and it will sooner or later!
Lots of people say the crankshaft issue is not really that big an issue, but as it means body off to replace the engine and the crank failing wrecks the block, so it means new or recon engine, it soon gets to and exceeds a 10k repair.
Now not to many people are going to be very pleased spending 50 percent of their cars value to repair it.

Guy down my local club his mate bought a used D4 and it shat its crank, still under warranty so new engine and off he goes only for it to fail again, and now the seller/repair people have washed theirs hands of it, why or how they can do that I have no idea.

Yes, I agree. Ive never recommended any car to her but because Ive owned a couple of landrovers she seems to think will be suitable for her. I did say that when they went wrong, it can be very expensive. If she was determined to get a landy, I would recommend a freelander but I dont know how good they are at towing caravans.

Looking on ebay, there are very few freelanders newer than 2015 for sale. Probably because they are so good, owners dont want to sell them until they are more than 5 years old.

I think you will find that is more because the discovery sport replaced the free lander?

The Freelander 2 was discontinued at the end of 2014, and replaced by the Discovery sport in 2015.
The Freelander 2 holds its money better than an equivalent year Discovery 3 or 4, simply because it's got much lower maintenance costs, and is many times more reliable.

No idea, just remember going to the dealers years ago and seeing the sport outside, asked the parts guy and he said oh that the freelander replacement.
When the Discovery Sport came out, it was basically a Freelander 2 with different exterior panels.
It's evolved a bit since then, with new engines and transmissions, but also seems to be less reliable than the Freelander it replaced.

That does seem to be the way of the world.
Trucks were like old land rovers and basically kept running until they were totally worn out, nowadays mechanically the drive train is pretty much indestructible, but all the electronic systems are another story, we often have 20 trucks vor daily, and most if not all of them will be emissions or some other elec system failure.
