My wife's 2014 Evoque's left rear brake light stopped working a week ago. I did notice however that the brake light worked when the ignition was on, but went off as soon as the engine was started.

I examined the unit, all looked ok, but realised of course that the brake light is LED, thus not replaceable, so £200+ for a new unit. I was dubious whether even buying a new unit would work, since the light seems to function ok with no engine running. So I invested in an iCarsoft LR V2.0 scanner, and it did identify a brake light fault. I reset it, but still no joy.

Coincidentally I had arranged for a mobile tech to call on Tuesday and update the gearbox software on my 2013 FL2 Auto, so I asked him to help with the Evoque. His diagnostic tool identified a short circuit fault on the brake light feed, and he also tried a reset that failed. He then updated the software on the Evoque and hey-presto it began to work again ok. We put it down to water getting into the housing at some time previous, and the auto-protection gubbings in the ECU (can't remember the acronym) disabled the circuit, so hopefully it might be ok now for a while. However the next day it failed again.

He had never come across this issue before, and I can't find anything similar via Google. The thought of having to trace a repair the wiring is either mindbogglingly difficult (DIY) or ridiculously expensive (Main Dealer).

Further Googling of different brakes (esp X3's it seems) does suggest the LED driver may be a possible culprit, so buying a full new unit may be the best fix. Has anyone had such problems with brake lights on an Evoque?

Try adding something from this 71PquRsxZTL.jpg

Then burn the damn ejoke

Pretty Please?
There ya go ;)
Now comes the bad news............uh oh
The ejoke is not well received on these pages. Mainly to do with Tata's misbadging of it as a Range Rover , rather than Land Rover, possibly Freelander3.
So help will be hard to come by . That said there are maybe two members who claim that a family member has one  I cannot for the life of me remember who those members are , but I'm sure someone will. So hang tight and batten down the hatches for incoming.
We don't usually send people off to other sites , but as it's an ejoke...............:p There is a site called evoque 'something', which is dedicated to the ejoke. Perhaps they might be able to help?

Well I did say it was my wife's lol........although I don't suppose my FL2 gives me any street cred on here though anyhow.

Desperate needs call for desperate measures, no joke.

I now feel like I've just walked into that Yorks Moors pub on American Werewolf..... (You're not called Brian Glover by any chance) ;)

Hopefully someone might follow me out of the building, and quietly whisper the fix into my ear, as I search out that famous Wetherspoon's 'The Broken Evoque'.

Street cred is over-rated. ;) There are plenty of Freelander owners on the site, they live in the cardboard boxes over in the Freelander section :D They are very knowledgeable about the model, so may come in handy. It's just the ejoke that is sneered at, by most.
I would search for the ejoke site for you, but should I die before clearing my tablet, I would hate friends, or family, to think I visit such places
If anyone follows you out of the building it will be most likely because they desperately need a find the nearest tanning salon, and having seen your ejoke fob, feel you can help :D
Ditch the ejoke, buy a Range Rover, ;)and hang around, your humour fits well

I seem to repeat myself. A box of matches and a can of petrol:D:rolleyes::D

Could I make floppy dick wangle suggest you check your brake light switch on the brake pedal. I know being a hairdresser in a gaylander. Before spending money on E@#£_&- I dare not say the word:( but I will feel dirty and soiled after. Do E@##__& have brake pedal or does this rely on other drivers:eek::eek: getting out of the way when the misses drives.

She probably looks like Brian.;)

I suspect the LED light supply has had something happen to it, which triggered a fault in the CJB, which then shut the output to that light unit down.

The reason it came back on after the SW update, was due the CJB being rebooted after the update.

I would think that simply disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes would also do the same thing.

Marvelous info thanks. I never thought about the battery disconnect trick. A new unit should arrive tomorrow, so I hope that will solve the issue.
