Hi All, new member and hoping someone could help me.

very randomly I have an amber light appear on dashboard with warning for suspension fault.

I have not been able to get it hooked up for any error codes to see a fault, but I have a feeling it relates to the front suspension. I can still lower or raise suspension but front doesn’t seem to do much compared to back.

is this a fairly straight forward job to replace or fix the suspension in front, or could it be a sensor that needs replaced only (and can a non mechanic manage that?).

I’m trying to get a mechanic to hook it up to the diagnostic tool but just want to see if there are common faults I shouldbe aware of and prepare myself for ! Lol

You really need the codes.
If you break the sytem down, there is the compressor, an air tank, and 3 valve blocks, and a whole load of electrics to control it, the fact you have issues with the front would suggest to me your front valve block may be the issue, (not sur eon D4) but on the D3 it is mounted in front of the driver sside front wheel behind the wheel arch liner, but it could also be the mid mounetd valve block not supplying enough air to the front valve block, hence the need for codes, also with the correct reader you can cycle the valve blocks yourself.
You can replace the valve blocks, which aint cheap, or buy the o rings kits off of ebay, whcih are 17 quid with enough o rings to do all three valve blocks.

I had an issue with mine a few weeks back, slow to go up, compresssor seemd to run for an age, and it was auggested to me I bought new filters and dessicant for the amk compressor, I did think rollacks, but hey got to try it, bought parts and hey presto no issues since.

If you are planning on keeping the car I can highly recomend the Gap IID tool (400 quid) or the much cheaper Icarsoft (100 quid).
IID can read/programme/update/modify ecus etc, Icarsoft just reads and clears, but still a very useful tool.

The valve blocks can get bits of debris holding valves open or closed, or O rings can leak as already suggested.

However there's no point in messing with the components until you have the codes. The D4 is a complicated vehicle, and so a full system diagnostic device is an essential requirement.

I'd also recommend the Gap Diagnostics IID as it does pretty much everything you ever want on the D4, however it is quite expensive, but it's only the equivalent of 4 or 5 diagnostic reads from LR, before it's paid for itself. ;)
