Thought I'd fixed it. The water in fuel code P226400. Restricted performance been on and off for for years; it has been checked at Indi LR garage (where it is serviced) nothing found and code cleared. I recently replaced the fuel filter and discovered "bare wire" where the WIF sensor cable entered the water drain, figured that could be a moisture trap. Replaced the filter with genuine LR and a new LR sensor cable etc.
All ok, checked for continuity and the bleed function, all good. Re scanned, picked up the fault & code then cleared all codes. Went to specific WIF again with 2nd option to erase, that done & problem sorted. It is now showing again, "water in fuel sensor circuit". The guy at the Indi garage said the interconnected electronics can & do throw up spurious faults from anywhere without reason. Needless to say, the car is not restricted in anyway shape or form, it just bug's the hell out of me as the warning comes on & off at will.
Has anyone suffered the same problem and managed to get rid once & for all.
Regards. Mick.

my local garage (western Europe) say it is the filter support causing the problem. They will replace it at the next service due end of May. The sensor is in there… An Aussie guy online says the same thing… Unless my garage just watched the same video… Let‘s hope this replacement solves the problem as it is very annoying.

Apologies for not replying sooner, I did contemplate replacing the whole support etc (a good kit price) if only! so, basically the little sensor that actually fits into the filter, connects to the water in fuel circuit and a 2nd sensor on the filter support reacts to either pure fuel of just plain water. Probably changing the returning resistance measurement, certainly makes sense. I'll have to look up the support again.
Many thanks, regards Mick.
