Morning all,

I've strayed over from the Series section to ask a bit of advice.

I've been offered the above vehicle from a family member for £5.5k before it's traded in. I've not been looking toget rid of my V70 but I could always be tempted to change as its been a few years.

The vehicle has 90k miles and is clean enough to look at, although I've not had a chance to get underneath it yet.

I know nothing about this era of Land Rover, but I know he wouldn't be offering it to me if there were mechanical issues that prompted the sale, he just fancies a change.

Are there any big things likely to go wrong at this age/milage I should look into? Or is it not even worth considering at that price.

Plus 1 , plse check what ur insurance cover will be as some quotes are eye watering

As these are heavy motors need to factor in the costs with brakes , discs which are normally replaced every third brake pad change , wishbone bushes, suspension compressor, servicing of the EPB

Is also very wise to have some form of diagnostics

Also looks like the rear brake pipes need replacing , been left like that since 2021, plus allowing tyres to get down to there limit

Thanks guys, got it for £4.5k in the end, will update with some proper photos and future plans soon enough.

That’s a great price and congrats on the new purchase

Assume ur give it a good service along with replacing the bad brake lines , not wishing to try and teach u how to suck eggs but would inspect the brake lines / hoses , pads etc from front to back , replace as required then personally would replace the brake fluid as at least then it gives u a good starting point

If u get stuck on anything regardless if u think of any silly questions plse feel free to ask as there’s plenty of us on here to help
 
Thanks for the tips Stu. I've been turning spanners in the Royal Marines for a few years now, so should I know a thing or two. I'll get it up on the ramp when I'm back in the UK and take it from there.

It was my old man's, so although I don't know the vehicle that well I know its recently been serviced and well looked after so it's a good starting point.

But yes, brakes inc fluid, tyres and a good service will be top of the list when I get hold of it.

Hopefully the drug dealer white/black combo grows on me... or I'll have to consider a career change.

Indeed ref the brakes as at least then with that all done it also gives u an extra peace of mind

lol, ref the drug dealer , u could always get a camo wrap for it to blend in 🤣

Have u got access to a scanner plse as Autel sell a basic one for around £80 , the gap iid is considerably better but alas are around £450

No insults taken here at all, there's always something for us to learn and it's often the most basic things that are missed out.

I do have access to good diagnostics at work, but I'm looking at the Alive Tuning interface that also doubles as a quick code reader.

Have a search on google for Icarsoft and Gap IID.
