Hello all,
New owner of a late model (reg 1/2013) 4.4 tdv8 L322. What an awesome piece of british engineering (yeah, thanks BMW!).
Wanted one since I got a lift in a white 2 door 1st gen RR with attractive brown velour seats when I was 5 years old (that wasnt yesterday).
Bought with 5k on the clock and 2 years warranty that I guess I'll be getting the use out of?
I do about 20k miles a year.
Any tips on keeping this thing on the road? What to watch out for?
Great forum!
McQ

Thanks for welcome - yep v8 is very nice, and I luv diesel.
I was stuck between new Disco and 1yo RR, but after 200 yards of driving it was no contest.

Make sure the gearbox oil is changed at regular intervals. the later ones are reputedly more reliable than the early ones, but regular changes will ensure you get the best life out of it.
Check for water leaks in the rear nearside quarter in case they haven't fixed it and in the spare wheel well.

Nice and tidy, never driven the tdv8 but it sounds a lot better than the 6pot
I'm no diesel fan and do many short trips so diesel is a no-no for more than one reason

Diesel is perfect for short trips, that's why taxis use diesels.

Wrong, particle filter needs heated up or it's useless £££ yes many taxis are diesels but they runs for hours, small or long trips don't cool down in between

Lower pumping losses, higher fuel economy, DPF is easily sorted, just needs a blast every few days. Oh and taxis can sit for long periods going nowhere outside major cities. Even in Paris you can find queus of taxis going nowhere at certain times of day.

Thanks for maintenance and checks advice - had not considered leaks from seals an issue so will check. Lets face it we've had enough rain to give it a good test!

On the diesel front, I have a 30 mile each way commute and longish forays at the weekends, couple of hundred miles typically. I find diesels a more relaxed drive, all that mid range grunt is easy to access most of the time.

Currently driving a 3.2 v6 4 motion VW which is great fun, but can be a bit frantic. Or at least the way I like to drive it can be a bit frantic.....

Great choice, Lovely looking Rangie, same colour as mine (except mines missing 2 cylinders in the shape of a V and is 11yrs older than yours!)

I would have loved a D3 (previously a D2 owner) but couldn't afford a TDV6 HSE they are so overpriced compared to FFRR's IMO.
:)
