hi all,
2010 RRS 3.0tdv6 60K

I have recently started getting an odd ratchety/clicking sound on deceleration at low speed coming from what seems as the right front area. It’s normally:

Very low speeds coming to a stop.
Happens when also in N coming to a stop.
I need to check to see if it’s linked with braking but since it started I have had the callipers off and checked the discs over
It’s normally 5-10 clicks then stops.
Doesn’t happen under acceleration so far
No there under normal continuous speed only when a slowing down force is applied.

Any constructive help folks can give towards this would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been working on cars for years but this is a new noise to me.

All belts and pulleys are new 3 months ago.

Thanks

Have a look at front prop.

Ours made a clicking noise under similar conditions. Front CV was worn on the prop.
Could hear it just by wiggling prop by hand.

Worth a check.

Just to update, the noise randomly stopped and had not returned. I checked out the props and all seems well however the front outer cv has a bit of a knock when I jerk the drive shaft inwards so it may be the outer cv on its way out. I’ve degreased the joint for the time being as the old grease was quite fluid.

My front drive shafts do the same when on the ground but jacked up they don’t. Pointed out by another member that they need this movement because of suspension geometry which is true.
I was also a little concerned as it did seem excessive, but no issues.

Don’t you hate it when things “fix themselves” you just have that it’s gonna bite me soon feeling.

How did you degrease the joint? And hope you regreased .

Also a thought maybe stones caught in some of the many shields under the car.

I have a shield that vibrates sometimes makes a wierd rattle during certain circumstances, it’s my fault I think I missed a fixing when I did my front prop:oops:. Will get it 1 day:D.

Auto correct was in play there. I re greased the outer CV by sliding the boot back then putting new clips on it. I agree, they need movement. Mine just made a knock as if the gram ease was too thin which evidently on inspection seemed to be the case as the new cv grease is much thicker.

Yep, waiting for the arse biting to happen.

Defo wasn’t stones, it was a rotational style clicking but I’m sure it will manifest itself again at some point when I’m far from home
