So, after completing a chassis restoration, still got the body to go, then the interior. I was thinking, just before i get the paint done, maybe do a conversion? So, i'm looking for a 200tdi to go in there. I was considering rebuilding the thing, though. I did a petrol engine before, so how much harder can a diesel be?
Never done a rebuild on a 4 cylinder before, i figured maybe it's time to learn :)
What do you think?

I have completed a couple of partial rebuilds on the older 4cyls before, nothing too difficult as long as you have plenty of room and the tools. I can't see the 200tdi being much different. I'd do a compression test and take the head off first, it may not need a full rebuild. New valves and springs, and refurbished injectors can make a big difference - you may be lucky. Of course there is the state of the turbo to consider too. I you go down the route of a full rebuild, there is more to consider, with the big ends etc, crank and crankshaft wear. Loads of good stuff on t'internet.

buy the land workshop manual and read up, it will show you what tools you need and what and how you measure, buy pistons before getting it rebored if needed as piston sets vary in size so its machined to suit ,get crank polished at the same time, quite a simple engine to rebuild
