What's involved in fitting a R380 to a 200tdi in a Defender?

I know the R380 is a direct replcement but is it truly direct?

The bellhousing and input shaft on the stock R380 is a lot longer than the LT77s - Ashcroft do/did a short R380 apparently, but it was a bit pricey.

Hope that helps a little,

OK, wishful thinking, I was hoping to ditch my LT77. The one I have at the moment was rebuilt about 20,000 ago and the baulk rings are already gone on 2 and 4 - that’s driven carefully and I have a tendency to match my engine/road speed (and makes a difference when changing on an LT77).

Anyway, company on eBay rebuild them for about 400 Inc delivery.

IIRC the short R380 was about £850, figure nicked from another forum so I dunno how accurate that is, whereas a recon LT77s is £395 exchange - best bet would be ring 'em.

You mean shorten the rear prop, lengthen the front prop, change the position of the gearbox mounts, not to mention the gear sticks which would mean needing to have a 'remote' to change gear for you as it'll be about 6 inches too far back in the cab, or as Marcus said, carry a passenger in the back to change gear for you... think that might cost a little more than the short shaft R380 paddocks sell ;)
