The wife has a BMW X5 4.6is on LPG and a mate at work has the same car but 3ltr diesel engine. We both do around the same sort of driving and mileage but due to the cost of LPG the wifes X5 is actually cheaper to run. So this got me thinking, i'm getting tired of the sooty black smoke, admitadly the pump has been turned up a little:D, but power wise the V8 wins hands down. Has anyone swaped a 200tdi engine for a V8? I was thinking of buying a complete disco V8 mot failure and swaping everything over?

lt85 on defender v8, the lt77 on early disco the stick length isn't correct, stupidly you need to strip box to change selectors to defender long stick. or it fouls the seat box

simple question is how large is your wallet and a rv8 will be no where near as economical unless you spend thousands-at which point it defeats the object.

Agree not seen 1 good setup even if £1000's have been spent or £100's all seem to be ****e!

HOWEVER if you want to swap I have a nice 3.5L here been rebuilt previous to my ownership. As I need a TDI to rebuild mine is er not so well

The v8 disco i had was converted at 20.000 miles and was still going strong at 100,000... shud never have sold it :(

me mate brought a RRC to use as a dakar kit car thingy Full service history and count 13 AFM since the lpg conversion about 12 years ago which cost nearly 2000K when it was converted. I guess there must be some good ones but I've never seen any and would never buy any LPG converted vehicle

Agreed, the earlier lpg kit's were'nt up to much and not very reliable especialy on fuel injected engines. But the newer digital systems are very good and the change over from petrol to lpg is un-noticable. We have had our X5 for just over a year now and have not had any problems with the LPG, I personaly think they get a bit of bad press due to the fact that people done have the systems serviced on a yearly basis, (filters) but having said that I don't know of many people running lpg Defenders/Discos, hence the post.

It cost him £2m?! Didn't realise conversions were that dear 12 years ago.

I've heard a lot of good things about LPG conversions but have never seen one on a Defender. I guess most of the Mercedes S class conversions don't do quite the same type of miles as the Defender V8's :D
