Hi guys
just got the old 110 back from the garage having had a disco 200tdi fitted. wow, it actually goes.
one problem
the temp guage is reading in the red all the time
apparently the disco sender unit and my 110 arent talking the same language.
does anyone know of an after market unit that i can fit
the sender from a defender is different thread apparently
all help appreciated

It is essential that the sender matches the instruments.
Go back to your old engine and whip out the sender unit.
NO other sender will work except one of that exact make-model.

On the head near the back, left side, there should be several holes, plugged, and one of them should allow you to fit the sender from the old engine.

Leave the duff unit in place to fill the hole unless that's the hole you need to use.

With any luck, sorted.

Or use the temp gauge from the disco if you've still got what's left of it and can make it fit the One-Ten dash.

Don't bank on that working, or that the instrument will fit.

By far the best plan is to use the sender that used to belong to the VEHICLE. You KNOW that way means the sender matches the dial, and it will work.

CharlesY - he bought a MOT failure disco for the injun - if he takes the 'instrument' from the disco it's a perfect match for the engine because it's out of the car the engine used to sit in ;)

Sure, I realised that, but will the Disco instruments fit his Defeneder dash?

In any event, it's a much smaller jobby to do the sender if there's a hole to screw it into.

Discomania's 90 had the same problem backwards.

It used to be a 2.5 petrol engine, and I changed it to a 2.5 N/A diesel.

I found a right sender and fitted it into a spare hole on the head rear left upper surface. The engine's proper sends just sits there filling a hole.

I've quoted and highlighted the important bits of the message I posted earlier that you obviously missed CharlesY ;)

thanks guys
the temp guage from the disco is built into the clock assembly so thats out.
i've got all the old bits of 2.5 n/a engine so could do CharlesY's suggestion.
called at my local motorspares shop n he's got an aftermarket pod containing water temp, oil temp, and oil pressure guages that would sit on top of the dash nicely
only trouble is its around 150 (does anybody know where the pound signs gone from my computer)
and my mechanical fitter skills are zero
sounds like the guage from the 200tdi defender is the best option
thanks again guys
dave
p.s anyone know where i can get a canvas back for the 110 cheap

Check the disco sender and the defender one are the same LR part number - you might need gauge and sender from the defender.

For heaven's sake try fitting the SENDER from then original engine that was in the car!

That costs NOTHING and it is bound to work!
