Its definitely engine oil, right?

On mine, its easy to smell the difference, as i run bio, but even dino (mineral diesel) should smell different to that burning tyres smell from engine oil.

What im thinking is that, if the IP has been sat for ages, components in that may not be working as desired, and massive overfueling as a result?

Ive heard that govenors in IPs dont always fair well from long storage periods, but, again, im just relaying things ive been told now...

As I posted earlier, cable, linkages and linkages on the pump. Are you sure the cable and linkages are assembled properly from the engine change?

Not that familiar with that pump, but I would think it is possible for the governor to stick inside or similar. Go with linkages first.

Im certain it's a stuck govornor now, the blue smokes finally cleared and I've driven up the road and under load all that smoke turns black. Any ideas on how to release the govornor?

Remove fuel filter, take a new filter and fill it with petrol, start up and let it idle, although yours may not! Let it suck the whole lot through the pump. Repeat if it seems to help.

Thanks for the advice petrol through the pump worked a treat, took a while but it's certainly done the trick. I'm just getting spluttering at high revs now so on to the next problem

Good! I have always found petrol to be just as effective as expensive fuel system cleaners.

Drive it around for a bit, maybe it will settle down and the spluttering will go away too.
