that looks worse than mine !

The ONLY way to get fuel to come out of injectors is for the injection pump to be working. Operating the lift pump will NOT do it.

In a 200tdi engine the injector needle springs will be set so that they need a pressure of over 150 BAR (over 2,250 psi) before the injectors will spray fuel.

The fuel lift pump can push under a quarter BAR, say 4 psi at most.

Like the man said, the fuel shut off - engine stopper - is probably knackered.

Managed to get the solenoid out without to much bother with a short pair of long nosed vice grips. Took out the plunger and spring and voila, the engine fired first time. Only problem was I couldn’t stop it.

Anyway, eventually tried another solenoid and the engine wouldn’t fire!

Not sure if I have placed the O ring in the correct position.

Does anyone know whether it goes above or below groove on plunger. ?

Have a look into the hole the stopper came out of and see it you have left any bits inside, like a wee plunger thing.

It can be useful to have a section of rubbery pipe in the fuel line, in the section closest to the injection pump. If the engine won't stop, you can kink or clamp the pipe (only heathens and savages would use a Mole wrench ...) and that should either stop the engine or make it slow right down.

Otherwise the clutch takes a pounding if you have to stall it all the time.

the clutch only teks a pounding when folk try to stall em in 1st gear. if you drop it in top it just cuts out ads the plate takes up the bite

I disagree.

If the car is stationary, it doesn't matter what gear it is in when stalling the engine, because if it is in ANY gear, none of the bits in the gearbox are turning - they are ALL held jammed by the brakes.

It is hard on the clutch stalling any diesel engine especially ones like Landies which are mostly fitted with injection pumps that include a tickover governor which causes a BIG increase in fuel injection instantly as the engine goes below the pre-set tickover speed.

I write from (bitter) experience!

If it works thats the engine bay sean

ay that works, but tis the other side that's the interesting bit - just wondered how you routed yer air/intercooler pipework - and where you've put the air filter etc

no i was just going to go and take one and took a new one tonight.
And the wirings in some state.
