I switched back to using biodiesel today, and I'm wondering about power/performance compared to petro diesel. It took 50L to fill the tank, which I believe is 60L, so 83% bio. It's B100 with winter additive.
The engine seems to be fine at low revs - it chugs along in much the same way it does with normal diesel. However, it doesn't seem to pick up as well when I give it some throttle, say from 50 to 60.
I also noticed something else while driving about town. Sometimes, if I was cruising along at 25-30, and then lifted the throttle and dipped the clutch before braking for traffic lights or stationary traffic, the oil pressure warning light would flicker on for a moment, but only occasionally.
Is the apparent lack of power for accelerating at middling speeds normal for biodiesel? When I used bio last summer, I felt that it was a little down on power then as well, and the fuel filter had just been changed. It currently has the same filter in it, and has covered about 6000 miles on normal diesel until now, and power has been fine.
The oil light thing is odd - it seemed to be affected by the balance between when I lifted off the throttle and operated the clutch. Never had anything like that happen on the normal diesel.
