can someone do me a favour and take a picture of the back of there 200tdi alternator?

mine has 3 outlets on back with nuts on and the lowest of them has nothing going to it??????????????????????

could this be why my battery keeps going flat lol????

anyone know what its for and where it should go?

you only need two of the feeds! you should have one small feed which your blue wire connects to, this is for your battery light.then you should have two more that are the same size as each other.it does not matter which of these two connections you connect your main thick wire to as they are both linked together.i hope i have explained it clear enough but if not just ask and let me know what you are not sure of! make sure that your battery light on the dash lights up with the ignition on as this is a sure sign of a knackered alternator. if the light is ok then get a volt meter and check your battery with the engine running and you should be getting a reading of 13-15 volts.any less says your alternator is knackered.dont forget you also have a feed for your rev counter but this should be a spade end.

hi mate, thanks for the reply, mine doesnt have a rev counter but i will check tommorow with the multimeter and see what im reading.

Just a quickie here .... when he says "with the engine running" make sure it is running at a fast tickover at least. On a slow tickover it is just possible the alternator won't start charging, even if there's nothing wrong with it.

I suggest you need a pencil and a wee bit of paper to note the voltages of three stages.

1. BEFORE you start the engine measure the voltage across the battery terminals. It really ought to be well over 12½ volts.

2. NOW start the engine, and measure the voltage across the battery again. If the engine is running fast tickover or more the voltage should be MORE that it was, and it might easily be over 14 volts.

3. Now turn on all the lights and the heater and the heated rear screen. The voltage may now go down a little tiny bit from stage 2., but if you rev it up it should reach a good 13½ volts minimum with that lot switched on.

This is a standard sort of alternator performance test.
