200tdi oil filter thread loose

the thread and collar for the oil filter are loose it wiggles left and right about 1mm each way is this normal or is ther a way to tighten it, the filter I removed was extremely tight, disco 200tdi

I have tried to undo and tighten but with no luck

It isn't normal.
I haven't seen that issue before, although I have been working on engines for a long time.
It looks to me as if it should be secured by the locking ring visible in your picture, which needs some kind of peg spanner to tighten it.

I think I would remove the oil filter adapter, and clean it up, and put it in a vice upside down, and remove the threaded part, see if it is stripped.
If it isn't, try and re-tighten the threaded part, and then secure with the locking ring.

If in any doubt, I would replace the oil filter adapter complete, you really don't want that coming loose in action.
Good opportunity to change the little thermostat for the oil cooler, which is also housed in the adapter, and hardly anyone ever changes.
