I've replaced the solenoid on my pump, but the engine still runs on when I switch off. I took the solenoid out again, and there was a little swarf (2 small pieces) on the plunger, so I cleaned it, and again it worked temporarily, so I assume there's a problem with the pump itself. Can anyone tell me what it might cost to have the pump repaired, and is it a difficult job to remove & replace it? Could I repair it myself?
Having just spent a few hundred quid getting it through it's MOT, and with plans for new doors etc, I don't fancy spending £500 on a new pump!

500 quid is what a recon pump will cost you.
Second hand is the way to go.
Remove and refit yourself is simple, even easier if you have the widget that holds the inj pump sprocket in situ so you dont have to tear down the timing chest.
Pump repair is pretty specialised.

I'd say second-hand pump aswell, loads out there (think I've got 4  )
stupid question though, is it possible that the swarf is coming from the lift-pump? (is there a 'filter' in the fuel 'in' pipe to the ip?)

anyway, good luck with this, my '92 sometimes runs-on, was thinking of changing the solenoid but that involves work o_O

Rich. (I have a solenoid & 24mm spanner in the drivers side door pocket of my '92 D1 ready to change BUT cant be arsed :p )

I've had a look at a video on removing the pump with the special tool to hold the pump sprocket in place, which is fine, but the tool is over £100 to buy. Is there another way of doing it without having to remove the timing cover? If not, it might be cheaper to get the garage to do it.
I may have to stick with my rusty old doors at this rate!

Pretty certain they are one and the same also a 300 one will fit, difference between disco and def is the injector pipes.
