i know there has just been a post up on this but i have a slightly bigger problem, i.e. i cant get my barrel off, as far as i was aware there should be 2 bolts on the top that you undo and hey presto, not mine though, i have 2 mushroom heads ontop, you would ususally find a whole for an allen key to fit in or somthing, thing is mine are just flat, firstly it boggles me as to how they got them in in the first place and secondly how do i get the fookers out? they sit under my clocks aswell so cant even get a drill to drill em out, anyone have any solutions as i cant use the disco as if i put the key in it wont release it and secondly the plug on the back is foobarred anyway so i somtimes loose my live when driving and its costing me money not having it on the rd.
anything would be appreciated chaps!

them bolts are shear bolts when new they have a bolt head on em when they you tighten them the heads break off,i snappped me key in the barrel once so it was a quick run over to halfords and grabbed a junior hacksaw, cut thru the alloy casting then cracked the swine off with a big screwdriver, less destructive is a dot punch and little hammer and keep tapping them round,or take the clocks out and drill away,or the chavs choice of tool a length of scaff bar over the end of the barrel and bang

cheers, the other barrel will be the same as its still on the old column, me thinks a hammer and chisel are in order!!!!!!

I used a long cold chisel and a hammer and it came undone straight away. Maybe I was lucky?

by hitting the barrel or the shear bolt???
p.s you door panel is ready when you want it, not sure when am gonna get up your way though so let me know if you want to wait or have it posted.
;)

I hit the shear bolt with the chisel - obviously in an anticlockwise motion. the second one didnt come off so I just prised the bracket off the column once the first bolt was off. My brother (a copper) recently had the same problem and was stranded. He was amazed that I was able to get it off and get him up and running in 10 mins!

You may as well send me the plate for the rear door then. 40 notes with postage you said? PM me your address and I will send you a check. I will PM a delivery address.

Have you managed to get it of rav?

i would use a small hammer and a centre pop to turn the shear bolt round then get some new un's from paddock or similar :D

or If you are replacing the barrel cut the the bolts in the slot with a hack saw:)

The one I got for my series had cap heads in :D

On the 2 I have done so far, I used a long (12") thin cold chisel and a 1 1/2lb hammer, first nut came undone straight away and the second a bit more stubborn. I just prised the bracket up until there was enough gap to just drop off. Then I undid the switch assembly with a small Philips and operated it with a large screwdriver until I got my hands on a new one.

Just realised - Ian were you addressing me Rev or Raz? or was Rav a combination post aimed at both?
