Under my landy
Clearly my method doesn't work as i've eaten through a couple of alternator belts now.

I was using one belt from engine to water pump (works fine, never failed) and another belt from the back pully on the engine to the alternator. (squeels sometimes and snaps when you really don't want it to)

The alternator (an uprated 100A job i think) has a 200tdi pully on it and doesn't line up with the water pump, so, can't just use one long belt, but, it does line up with the back pully.

I don't have the PAS pump on the engine (although I am considering the PAS upgrade for Series at some point so it may re-appear)

So what does everyone else do... or am i just unlucky?!

Oh arse. i meant to post that in the series section.

Oh well, either a mod can move it for me (please :)) or it can just sit in here!

bump,
I too have posted about my follies of my 200DTi alternator belt.

I bought a "really good quality" belt as a pair off ebay back in the summer.
was total ****e.
I`m gonner bin the bigger belt,
the smaller binned itself friday night!

now got a genuine landrover belt put on tother day,
seems fine.
the cheap an nasty belt always looked like it was gonna jump off, and stretched like yer grannies knicker elastic, horrid thing, but gone now.

the alternator I`m "still" using was an old Volvo one I cut the case to fit the landie, still works fine, and the pulley lines up perfect,
but Ironically has a twin V pulley fitted so yes, I could use just 1 large V belt I suppose, but then I like my power steering to work proppa like.

I have got a new landie alternator in its box, still, waiting till I can be arsed to fit it :)

but will be easier now the new belts on...
