200tdi gearbox oil change

Hi guys.
Went to change oil on gearbox today I do e fill plug but can't see to get a socket over the drain plug ?

Am I missing something completely obvious and being silly

32mm and don't bother with adjustables. They're only suitable for stuff around the house to prevent scratching chrome plated fittings.
 
Theres adjustables and then theres adjustables, quality ones wont cause any damage at all.

Also done my dads today which hasn't been done for 15yrs and found this . Any ideas ?

Some thing in there has chewed up,[circlip?] clean out filter and see whats in there but if still working reasonably well then refill and check again in a few months.
 
Selector shaft circlip, makes me sound really knowledgable? in truth I just read the parts list!
