Hello everyone I was after a little bit of help and was hoping that perhaps someone on hear maybe able to shed a little bit of light on my problem, anyhow from the top :-

I was off roading in my 200tdi when I went in some deep mud sand stuff when I eventually winched out the oil light was flicking but ignored it then on the way home my cambelt broke which when taking the cover off was full of mud and sand causing bent push rod etc so completely stripped and found the sump full of sand also so cleaned the pump out put in new shells rings ect put it back together and everything sounds sweet but the light is still flicking when warm changed the switch twice (thought might have had a faulty one) nothing changed the oil still nothing so changed the oil pump which has stopped the light but now the light isn't even coming in with the ignition so don't wont to risk driving it with out knowing everything's ok :-( the bulb is fine but don't know what else to do I'm sorry about the essay just thought I'd fill you in thank you all in advance :)

I assume there's no damage to the wire coming from the sender? I.e. if its chafing on the engine block or chassis then it will cause the light to flicker

Thanks for the reply everything inside is sound it's all mint and the engine sounds sweet,it's just the oil light now may be just a coincidence that its completely gone now iv put in the oil pump I have put a electrical reader on the wires but its got now power it's really doing my nut in shortly if something was up inside it would still come on with the ignition??

you said light was still flickering before it went out completely have you tested actual oil pressure

No sorry it was flickering but now I have changed the oil pump which I'm sure was causing low oil pressure which made the light flicker but now the light isn't working at all I have bought 3 switches and still nothing surly they all Can not be broke :-(

Sorry James just read your post again no I haven't tested oil pressure If I can get the light working again then that will be my next point of call if its still flicking

I have swapped the bulb bust to be sure and nothing I have read sum were that it is an earth wire is this true???so you saying run power cable to it??thanks for your help

bulb has ignition live feed to it ,then from there it runs to switch ,switch earths bulb and so lighting it up , so wire to switch should show live when tested

That's great I have tested the wire to switch with ignition on but no joy looks like ill be having the dash out to try and chase this bloody wire anything else I can try before I make a mess :)
