Hi
First MOT for me on my old Disco 200, failed on a few bits of welding and a bump stop missing plus front discs are low and need replacing, not to bad considering some of the horror stories I've read on the forums. However going to do the discs myself and just wondered if there are any unusual problems that might show on this job or special tools that would be needed, going to replace both disks and pads?

Also come across some Mintex kits from Paddocks which seem pretty cheap - are they OK or not - if not what make is better. And lastly (although there OK) is it worth putting braided front flexi's on whilst doing the rest and if so best place for them, seen some stainless ones on Llama.com site, seem pretty good, any advice on this would be great.

Many thanks

Nothing special needed............

You wont have to bleed the system but you will if you get stainless brake hoses!

Mintex aren't a bad make of brakes, just run of the mill sort of stuff. Will do the job!

Paddocks do braided hoses too, I've only ever replaced them when doing a suspension lift. Although they are supposed to improve the feel of the brakes.

I've never noticed a difference........

My 200 TDI failed on discs etc January just gone. Went to Paddocks and got a complete set, front and rear £75.00 incl p&p (discs, pads, pad fitting kits, bearing seals, gaskets and hub nut lock washers front only you will have to buy the rears seperately). Whilst doing that carried out a good clean of the steering and suspension especially round the swivels. Drained swivels and refilled with that extra thick grease from local Landrover agent.

As to special tools I borrowed a suitable box spanner for the hub nuts, make sure the use good spanners/sockets on the nuts/bolts securing the discs.

Not a bad job took me a day, now have excellent brakes.

As so far mentioned the hub spanner ect and a splined socket to undo the disc from the hub. The splined socket must be a tight fit on the hub/disc bolts, I know someone mentioned 17mm but I thought it was a smaller perhaps 14/15?

Either way make sure you have a good purchase before you try to undo them, you may need to beat the DISC with a big hammer to separate it from the hub.

Pretty straightforward job,

regards

Dave
