Hello, I know I may be tempting fate but thinking ahead and wanting to get her a pressie for her 200k birthday.
She will be getting a new headlining and I am toying with the idea of a LED lightbar to sit on top of bumper.
I do an awful lot of miles on dark twisty wee roads and reckon this could help.
I am worried about how the BECM will cope? I think I have the hi line BECM as she has heated screen and heated seats but not sure how this will handle a light bar and also how to do it. I have a nanocom.
Your thoughts and advice would be gratefully received
Ta

There must be a way. We used Range Rovers back in the 80s and 90s as response vehicles and although we didn't have light bars on them, we had all sorts of extra lights and electricals, same as our more recent vehicles.
I know it doesn't give a technical answer but someone will know which magic boxes were used for our vehicles, and thus can be used for yours.

You could try upgrading your spots to LED? Might even be able to drive a small light bar in parallel for the same power? Other than that it'll be a separate switch and relay to the battery, I think. @martyuk probably knows a clever way to get a spare switch on the dash to latch and work. Maybe where low range switch is on the manual box?

Thanks for your advice.
That is a very good point Gold so yes there must be a way.
Thanks Grrrrr but not keen on upgrading them as they are under the bumper and illegal to use them normally and I spend most of my life cursing those who keep their numpty lights on as they can be dazzling on wet roads

Just as another thought. Unlikely though it is, that you won't get the answer on here. Are you on a REME forum. It was REME who kept our vehicles on the road, and fixed any lighting/electrical problems, so that's always a second source to pick. If necessary :)

There was a special Police version of the P38 and there is a setting in the BECM for Police.

Crikey forums didnt exist when I was there lol. But well worth a hunt cos there must be one.
Can you set it with the Nanocom or would that be a Rick the Pick type of wizardry?

I run some long projection lights in conjunction with my high beams.
It gets pretty dark here and keeping an eye out for f7cking wild boar... They work brilliantly, but then mine are hidden inside my grill.
They use a trigger wire from the high beam supply to operate a relay and power the lamps from the battery via a fuse.
The becm isn't included in the equation and any fuses are independent of the cars systems ;)

Thanks Grrrrrr I will try and find out how
Thats interesting Mark ta
Are they the aircraft landing lights we used to fit to rally cars.
Good idea to keep them totally separate from BECM

They are made by ring, just spotties, I put them inside my grill assembly so I didn't have to drill holes in the bumper. I'll post a picture tomorrow and you can see the arrangement.
I will add it's not a standard grill and may not suit your application but.... It's another idea for you to ponder on.;)

there you go.;)
So now if I sell or I get board of the lamps and grill I can swap back to the original without problems. The grill was a lot of work, on and off the bus getting it to fit the best I could.
It makes me happy and looks different to every other.:D
