2006 TD4 not starting/idling roughly

Hi

I have a 2006 Freelander TD4 which has done 123k. Just recently it hasn't started - turned over but then cut out when I revved it and has been idling roughly. Engine has also kept running a couple of times when I turned the ignition off

Today it nearly cut out a couple of times and the engine warning light came on. Have it booked in for next week but not sure if I need to do something sooner.

Has anyone got any idea what could be causing this - concerned because I previously had a 1998 Freelander 1.8 on which the head gasket went - and the symptoms were similar. I know the head gasket problem was known in the 1.8 petrol engines but how likely is it in the TD4?

Sounds like it could be the fuel pressure sensor on fuel rail, theres a multiplug behind the EGR valve if you disconnect it and your problem goes away, et voila!

you cant run the car without it connected but a quick start will show you if it is this which is going/gone, the connectors corrode over time (you can try cleaning them up) and give dodgy signals to the ECU hence the issues you are having.

wouldnt worry too much about the head gasket they're pretty tough on td4s.

i seem to remember a fuel pressure sensor kit is available from your local stealer, search on here and you should find a previous post on it.

Hi mate this has happened to my TD4! Turned out to be the intank fuel pump! easy job to do your self but expensive if you go to the dealers!
AA verified mine was faulty! got a replacement from LR Direct for something like £115.

Thanks for the help. Now won't start at all so garage is coming to pick it up! Luckily I have a good local mechanic who will charge a fraction of LR prices.

2006 Td4 doesn't have an intank fuel pump. They changed it in mid 2002 to under the rear wheelarch.
