Hi All,

I have search the forum for info on the crank case filter for a 2006 TD4 but can't find anything relating to this year freelander.

As I'm about to do a service on the car I was looking at changing the crank case filter for the BMW oil separator upgrade. Reading through the forum search engine I have come to the conclusion that I need BMW part No: B11.12.7.799.367, please can somebody confirm that this is still the part number required for the 2006 TD4 freelander.

It's a 40 mile round trip to my nearest BMW stealer so don't want to have to make a second trip if I've got the wrong part.

Thanks

Grayo

Yes - that's the part number.

You could get it on eBay - but personally I'd go to the BMW Parts Dept.

Here's a pic of whats in the box.

BMW E46 , E60 , E90 OIL SEPARATOR / BREATHER FILTER M47N , M47N2 320d 520d | eBay

Thanks Sing,

Wasn't sure about this at first but reading through the posts it's recommended to change it. I don't think there's anything else unless I'm missing something ???

I've got:

Oil filter
Air cleaner
and all the oils

I'll go and get this oil separator now.

Can you think of anything else I'm missing ????

Also be aware that you might have to modify the BMW part ever so slightly. This thread refers: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/pcv-bmw-part-200908.html

How about the turbo solenoid vent filter - the little white one thant hangs in the back left-hand corner of the engine bay - sits there looking like it's doing nothing -especially as it's open at one end.

The little arrow on it should point to the rubber pipe as it filters the incoming air. Off-road enthusiasts sometimes forget to clear the crud from it. It should be be clean and dry inside.

Wasn't aware of this vent filter, but will check it when I get started on the service. Got to replace a light in the pit in the garage, every time I turn the light on it blows the trip switch. LOL

I really do appreciate all the help and advice given by everybody on this forum. This is what makes it a great forum.

Many thanks to all.

i did mine last weekend new air filter aircon filter. bought the bmw crankcase filter for £24 striped it all down only to find it allready had the bmw one in dam. still put the new one in so you may be better checking first save you some money

Bought one for my wife's 2006 TD4 just before Christmas. I didn't have any problems with the OE type as after the vehicle was out of warrenty I took over servicing myself and I always replaced it annually so it never got too bad but I thought I might as well do it.
Bought the replacement part from a motor factors (123 Spareparts), OE Febi Bilstein cost £17.87 inc courior delivery.

What year is your car??? The guy at BMW did say the later model freelanders have already been converted but didn't say from what year. Mine is a 2006 year model.

Cheers

First I've heard of that.
Personally I doubt it - or we would have heard it from members before.

AFAIK the BMW M47R was unchanged throughout it's life in the Freelander (and Rover 75s & MG ZTs) except for the temp sensor in the top intercooler hose.

The M47TU and M47TU2 as used in the BMW E46 320d etc. was 'improved' and given the vortex 'Oil Separator' part, amongst many other things.

Kendo's car was more than likely upgraded by a previous owner. But if he has owned it from new ....... then I stand corrected.

Good idea to check first before buying the part though.

Hi SV,

I've got no idea if the filter on later model freelanders have been changed or not, just repeating what the BMW guy told me yesterday when I told him it was for my freelander. Perhaps somebody at LR has been reading the forum posts and decided thats a good idea LOL. I'll soon find out when I get started on my service if it's been changed or not. I've owned my 2006 freelander from new and I have never changed it.

My local BMW service manager and parts manager are very helpful, but they admit to having no info on any changes to the M47R. Their computers do not recognise the engine numbers even.

My believe about no mods comes from my asking qustions while on a factory tour of the BMW diesel engine plant in Steyr Austria - where a relative of Mrs Singvogel works. Very interesting visit and engine displays btw.

I changed the cotton filter part to the vortex 'oil separator' in mine for the first time at 86K - it was not blocked but was full of sticky thick black oil almost like tar.

I've owned it from new and had always kept it in good oil at the recommended oil changes.

I'm glad I found out about the mod.

Singvogel.
